My Travel Journal

"There isn't much I haven't shared with you along the road and through it all there'd always be tomorrow's episode" - Elton John

I started traveling around the world since early 80s when I had the opportunity to combine business trips with vacations. Then later when my rezeki is in abundance, there were numerous other trips along the way for vacations, most of the time with hubby and the kids when the timing is right. I have also started to compile the journal and photo-pages covering almost more than 45 years of world wide travel. Some destinations I visited just once, others many times. Many of those places are the obvious famous places people would like to visit but some, the casual traveler doesn't even think to try. I have placed links to my travel at the side bar of my personal page, My Life Reflections, and will be updating them from time to time.

My wish is to continue my travel and complete circumnavigate the globe, insyaAllah…

2014 4x4 Thai Adventure - 11 Hatyai - KL

"Sometimes the hardest part isn't letting go but rather learning to start over..."

(Delicious dishes for breakfast)

Day 11: 15 September 2014 (Monday)
Hatyai - KL
Distance: 533km

We had nasi kerabu and roti canai breakfast at Khalid Restaurant before we checked out. Before we drove out of Hatyai town we drove to the Central Market to buy tid-bits, nuts and a few kilos of fragrance rice.

(Buying sotong and nuts at the market)
(A favorite stop for bikers)

It was raining lightly when we reached the border. Border clearance at Bukit Kayu Hitam was smooth. After refueling at Changlun, we drove south and planned to have lunch at Restaurant Ikan Bawal Ladang Kelapa Sawit at Juru. On the way to Juru the aircon of our 4x4 stopped functioning and we drove to Juru sweating buckets in the heat. We had our lunch first before we went to a nearby aircon service centre to check on the aircon.

(Driving in heavy rain towards the border

(Merdeka Day Run)

At the service centre the mechanic found out that the aircon belt had snapped. A thorough check discovered that 2 other beltings were also in need of change. Unfortunately the shop had no spare aircon belts so we had to wait quite a while for the spare parts to come from Bukit Mertajam.

We waited almost two hours for the mechanic to fix the beltings. Once the aircon was functioning well again, we continued our journey southwards and stopped at Semanggol R&R for solat break.

(Replacing the air-con belt)

We again stopped at Ulu Bernam R&R for solat break and dinner before we continued our journey. We reached Selayang around 22:00 and sent Hayami and Siti back to their home first.

We finally reached our Bidara House around 22:30.

Alhamdulillah...

Day 10: 14 September 2014 (Sunday)
Chumphon - Hatyai
Distance: 479 km

(Fishermen with their catch)

The scenery from our chalet is awesomely beautiful this morning. We watched the hustle bustle of busy fishermen bringing their catch to the shore as the sea water was receding fast.

(One with the Blackfoot)

After checking out, we started our journey at 08:00 driving south. We stopped at a petrol station to have a hot cup of coffee and halal burger from 7-eleven. With the assistance of the GPS we managed to locate a Muslim Restaurant in Lang Suan and had nasi goreng for breakfast. There is also a newly built mosque near the restaurant.

We drove on and located another halal restaurant a few km away from Patthalung and had nasi lauk for lunch.

(A newly built mosque)

We reached the Golden Crown Hotel in Hatyai early afternoon. After a refreshing shower and prayers, the ladies went to a nearby salon to have facials and hair wash. After, we joined the men for a two hour aromatherapy body massage at a nearby Charawa Massage Parlor.

We had dinner at Khalid Restaurant next door and later walked a short distance to Pink Lady near Lee Gardens Hotel to buy t-shirts and souvenirs. Before we walked back, we packed pulut durian from warung Aji and ate at Khalid Restaurant.

Tonight we slept soundly and rested our tired body well.

(Not much traffic on the road)

It was raining heavily on the way to Chumphon. We detoured to Chaam to have nasi goreng and somtam for lunch at Restaurant Mariam and performed our prayers there. At one of the bank by the Chaam beach we changed some foreign currencies to bahts before we proceeded towards Chumphon.

(Clear signages to follow)

(Arriving in Chumphon town)

It was already dark when we arrived at Chumphon beach. We checked in a small resort by the beach for b500/night. After we settled down and shower, we went to the night market and walked along the beach where there were many families having a picnic by the water front.

(Driving along the beach)

As there is no Muslim restaurant around the area, we had seafood tomyam and grilled prawns for dinner at one of the restaurants along the beach.

This morning all of the gang had breakfast early. After we checked out of the hotel, the rest brought down their bags and riding gears and packed the boot of the 4x4. We will be driving back to KL with Hayami and Siti via Suphan Buri, Chumphon and Hatyai. The four of them, Shawal, Shanaz, Rozlan and Hj Din, will be staying another night in Chiang Mai and will be flying back tomorrow afternoon.

The rest of the gang went to Kawasaki Service Centre to purchase spare parts for motorbikes which we will bring back to KL in our 4x4. Later they went to Pop Motobike Rental to return their rental bikes. After saying goodbye we left them with a few other bikers who just arrived by flight from KL.

(Fresh longans for the road)
(A nice clear weather)

The weather was fine for driving. We arrived at Masjid al-Fattah in Tak when the Friday prayer was about to end. After we performed our zohor/asar prayers, the Imam introduced us to the owner of a Muslim Restaurant who showed us the way to his restaurant. We had nasi ayam and iced tea for lunch. The restaurant is situated by the lake side and opens daily from 09:00 to 15:00.

2014 4x4 Thai Adventure - 07 Mae Hong Son - Chiang Mai

"Never regret. If it's good, it's wonderful. If it's bad, it's experience..."

(Another group photo, cheery in the morning)

Day 7: 11 September 2014 (Tuesday)
Mae Hong Son - Chiang Mai
Distance: 237 km

There was no water in the hotel room this morning and every one was shouting and complaining. Those who had not taken their shower had to wait for the pump to be switch on first before we could use the bath room. It was already late when we checked out but we still had time for a group photo in front of the hotel.

(Goodbye Mae Hong Son, we'll come again...)
(The bikers riding out of town)
(Passed through the same road towards Pai)
(A must stop photo opportunity)
(The entrance to the coffee shop)
(The coffee shop was closed)
(A beautiful scenery of paddy fields)
(A wet and cloudy day)

Today the bikers gang decided to ride direct to Chiang Mai via Pai. We drove cautiously as it was raining intermittently. We made one toilet stop at the highest mountain point and a cup of hot brewed coffee from the Pai Fah Cafe before we drove to Pai and met with the rest of the gang at warung nasi ayam. We ordered crispy banana pancakes from the neighboring warung for our dessert.

(A scenic mountain view)

(Beware of obstacles by the road side)
(A little off-roading again)
(Heavy traffic heading into Pai)
(Pick-ups and lorries on the hilly road)

After refueling we drove on towards Chiang Mai and stopped at Coffee 32, the hillside coffee house for coffee and snacks.

(A nice quiet resort)
(Complete with a terrace restaurant)
(Opportunity for toilet stop too)
(Signing the guest book)
(This is what I wrote and drew)
(The gang having a good time)
(A nice cozy chalet)

We arrived at Pornping Hotel early. Hubby and Hayami went to Pop Motobike Rental to return Hayami's rental bike while the ladies stayed in the hotel room to rest. Although Hayami returned the bike a day early, there was no refund but he was lucky that he was not charged for the bad scratch on the handlebar. After, they went to a tyre shop to change all four tyres of our 4x4, costing b4500/each.

(Riding towards Chiang Mai)
(A rider giving a rest to the butt)

(Wearing our newly bought t-shirts)

Tonight we had dinner together with the rest of the gang and met a few other bikers gang who just flown in from KL. They will be riding the 1000 corners and neighbouring terrain in the next few days.

After dinner we went for an hour of foot massage and later walked along the night market and bought t-shirts and pants for our three grand children.
