My Travel Journal

"There isn't much I haven't shared with you along the road and through it all there'd always be tomorrow's episode" - Elton John

I started traveling around the world since early 80s when I had the opportunity to combine business trips with vacations. Then later when my rezeki is in abundance, there were numerous other trips along the way for vacations, most of the time with hubby and the kids when the timing is right. I have also started to compile the journal and photo-pages covering almost more than 45 years of world wide travel. Some destinations I visited just once, others many times. Many of those places are the obvious famous places people would like to visit but some, the casual traveler doesn't even think to try. I have placed links to my travel at the side bar of my personal page, My Life Reflections, and will be updating them from time to time.

My wish is to continue my travel and complete circumnavigate the globe, insyaAllah…

2017 UK Trip: Castle Combe, England - The Prettiest Village in England...

"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes..." - Charles Spurgeon

(Honey coloured Cotswolds stone building in Castle Combe)

Date: 16 May 2017 (Tuesday)
Route: Cirencester – Castle Combe
Distance: 25 miles (44 min)

The Cotswolds are an area of scenic countryside, two hours west of London – beautiful hills and valleys, pretty villages, small towns, ancient houses and cottages with traditional stone roofs and the famous dry stone walls. The Cotswolds were all about sheep farming, wool and sheep meat.

(A few miles from the town of Chippenham)
(The narrow valley of By Brook)
(Arriving at the centre of the village)
(The upper Castle Combe on higher ground)
(A quintessentially English village)
(Featured regularly as a film location)
(An outstanding natural beautiful)

Today farming remains important but manufacturing has all but disappeared. The name Cotswolds is derived from “Wold” being the olde English name for Hills, while “Cot” – is like a child’s crib, but in this case referring to the wooden or stone shelters that the shepherds used, that once dotted the landscape!

(Castle Hotel in Castle Combe)
(Old Rectory Tea House)
(A book signing by Anna Roberts)
(Roses in bloom at Castle Combe)
(An ancient monument in Castle Combe)
(The ancient monument is at the village centre)
(Ancient Monument Act 1913 - 19310

The village has two parts: one is in the narrow valley of the By Brook, while Upper Castle Combe is on higher ground to the east. A motor racing circuit is to the south of the upper village.

(14th-century Market Cross)
(Buildings dated from the 13th-century)
(St Andrew Church in Castle Combe)
(Taking a look around St Andrew Church)
(An old graveyard in the church compound)
(A public transport to Castle Combe)

We drove out of Castle Combe village before noon and headed towards Bath, 13 miles away.

(A small narrow road leading out of the village)
(A cool day for cycling)
